Say hello to the Battlax BT-016....designed to maximise the sporty performance of sports bikes on the road today. The advanced multi-compound technology applied to both front and rear tyres offers the rider the performance demanded in every riding mode. For the passionate rider who loves curves with deep riding angles, the newly developed compound along the edge of the rear tyre offers great line holding with a feeling like riding on a rail.
Overall, the BT-016 delivers better contact feel, better feedback, better stability, better mileage and significant noise reduction.

Bridgestone are bringing their latest MOTO GP technology to the road in both construction and compounds in the new BT-016 Pro. With SILICA rich compounds, NANO PRO technology and Bridgestone’s unique RC POLYMERS, a massive improvement in “practical performance” in both wet & dry conditions; whilst still maintaining superior grip, handling & ultimate stability including improved mileage from both front and rear tyres can all be easily achieved.
Latest Tre test
Bridgestone has a new sports tyre, the BT 016 PRO. Replacing the standard BT 016, the new PRO version is claimed to offer superior grip, stability, and longevity. We track-tested a set, fitted to a Honda Fireblade superbike, around the superfast Silverstone circuit to check out some of those claims.
The start of the test was held in fine but cool weather. But even in the low temperatures, the Bridgestones gave excellent grip after just one warm-up lap. Then as time and laps went by my confidence grew further and I got the chance to put the BT 016 PROs under even more pressure. My faith in them remained undiminished, with adhesion, stability and steering manners all being especially impressive - even with the Honda’s massive power and trick braking system providing a very stern test. Another virtue of the rubber is its feel and feedback that lets you know exactly where you are. It’s something that marks the PROs as an improvement over the standard spec BT 016s.
Warmer temperatures arrived later allowing even harder riding, yet the Bridgestones continued to perform strongly - never giving a single moment of concern.
Feeling as solid round the track’s very fast corners as they did braking hard into its slow chicanes and over some serious bumps, the PROs inspire lots of confidence. Only when things cooled down towards the end of the day did the situation change, but that only highlighted another positive feature.
When they do eventually pass their grip limit (as they did when I inadvertently used too much throttle - causing the rear end to step out a couple of times), the PROs slide progressively enough to allow easy control and recovery.
I’ll need to ride the BT 016s on the road for a lot longer in more varied weather conditions to test them more comprehensively. But as far as sheer performance is concerned, the new Bridgestones certainly deserve a very high score.
The new BT 016 PROs are available now at the same price the standard BT 016s used to be - the older version BT 016s now being offered at a lower cost.
TECH BOX
Technology learned from years of MotoGP racing has helped Bridgestone develop the new BT 016 PROs.
Sporting the same carcass, tread pattern and profile as the standard BT 016, the PRO is distinct thanks to its new compound. One of the main features of that is its use of RC Polymer technology, which allows the normally difficult blending process of synthetic rubber and Silica to take place. This gives good wear characteristics thanks to stronger resistance to abrasion (one of the main advantages Bridgestone racing tyres used to have over the competition before it became the control tyre in MotoGP), and excellent wet weather performance.
The rear tyre features a 3LC (three layered compound) which combines a harder central tread for greater durability with a softer one at the sides for increased grip when cornering.

* Sizes are GT spec (heavy vehicle specialized tuning specs), with front tires developed with a structure differing from standard product patterns. The rear tires also differ in structure in much the same way. For large-size touring motorcycles and other heavy-duty models using pannier cases (saddlebag-like carrying cases placed over sides of motorcycles), the result is improved handling, lightness and loading stability.

A premium sport tyre inspired by Bridgestone’s MotoGP technology
Bridgestone has strengthened its motorcycle tyre line-up with the launch of a premium sport tyre: the Battlax Hyper Sport S20 for riders of high-powered machines from 600 to 1300 cc. Using the “S” (= Sport) symbol for the first time on a Battlax tyre, the premium S20 completes Bridgestone’s Hyper Sport product line-up that includes the Battlax BT-016 Pro and BT-016 amongst other sport specialists for road and track.
The development target for the S20 was to meet the demands of European sport riders for the highest handling performance in wet and dry on all types of roads and riding conditions: highway touring, winding country roads, city streets and track circuits. Bridgestone engineers turned to their MotoGP experience for the answers.
“Test results of the new S20 show that Bridgestone can take MotoGP technology and apply it to a road tyre” says Vincent Van Houtte, Manager Motorcycle Tyre Products, Bridgestone Europe.
Larger contact area at all angles
Compared to the BT-016 Pro, the S20 has superior handling on wet and dry, while maintaining excellent wear life performance. Bridgestone’s proven construction with Mono-Spiral Belt (MSB) and High Tensile Super Penetrated Cord (HTSPC) has been optimized to produce a larger ground contact patch at all riding angles, providing more grip in all conditions. At lower camber angles, this larger contact area improves the contact feel and adds ride comfort; at medium and higher angles, riders enjoy more cornering stability.
The S20 tread pattern is designed with grooves that straighten out in the centre of the tread, improving cornering performance when the angle is low, particularly at turn-in. On the front, the side grooves run up to the shoulder, providing better contact feels at high angles and stronger grip on wet and dry. On the rear, the wider grooves give confident grip in the wet.
"The S20’s large contact area and grip level come from its MotoGP genes. Sporty riders can tackle the angles with full confidence” says Dominique Plom, Assistant Manager, Field Engineer, Bridgestone Europe.
Immediate grip
The new compound with Silica Rich and Bridgestone’s proprietary NanoPro-TechTM polymer, which reduces heat build-up during tyre rotation, provides improved grip in the wet and at low temperatures. This gives confident grip right from the start during warm-up, without sacrificing mileage performance on front or rear.
The triple-layer compound (3LC) with an optimized segmentation of soft and harder compound has been applied on front and rear, improving dry grip as well as giving high stability in cornering and good mileage.
New wet grip benchmark
Test results versus Bridgestone’s BT-016 Pro tyre show that the new S20 delivers improved grip on dry roads, giving more confidence for cornering, and high-level sporty handling. On the track, riders can expect high cornering stability and faster lap times through better and more balanced grip on front and rear.
Bridgestone tests show that the S20 wet grip is even better than the BT-016 Pro, already the established standard in the wet. Results also show the high stability that comes from improved grip, with easy control in heavy rain conditions.
This high-level grip has been achieved without sacrificing mileage performance. Bridgestone tests confirm that the new S20 compound has excellent wear resistance, providing high mileage on front and rear tyres.
The new premium Battlax Hyper Sport S20 is available in Europe from January 2012 in 4 front sizes and 7 rear sizes
